Teachers in Residence Program

Connecting Classrooms to Marine Corps History

The Teachers in Residence (TIR) Program is a unique partnership between the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC), the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, and surrounding county school districts. Each year, selected teachers from Prince William County Public Schools and Stafford County Public Schools work alongside Museum staff to bring Marine Corps history directly into K–12 classrooms.

Through interactive lessons, hands-on use of primary source artifacts, and inquiry-based learning, TIRs inspire students to connect the values and legacy of the Marine Corps with broader themes in U.S. and world history. Their work enriches social studies education while fostering leadership and critical thinking skills in young learners.

Why It Matters

The Teachers in Residence Program ensures that the history, traditions, and values of the Marine Corps reach far beyond the Museum walls. By equipping educators with tools and experiences that connect directly to their classrooms, the program inspires the next generation to understand, honor, and reflect on the service and sacrifice of Marines.
