FOUNDATION CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR OUTSTANDING PORTRAYALS OF MARINES IN CREATIVE ARTS AND SCHOLARLY WORK

Nomination deadline January 8

Dumfries, Va. – The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is accepting nominations for its 2016 Annual Awards program, which recognizes outstanding, creative work preserving or highlighting an aspect of Marine Corps history, traditions, culture or service. Marines and civilians are both eligible to submit their own entries or the distinguished work of others. Awards will be presented at the Foundation’s annual award ceremony, April 23, 2016 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The deadline for submissions is January 8, 2016.

The Annual Awards are presented in 15 categories, including journalism, documentary, literature, screenplay, photography and poetry. Submitting a nomination is free. All winners receive a $1,000 cash prize, a medallion and a commemorative brick along the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park pathway at the Marine Corps Heritage Center, adjacent to the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Previous winners have included renowned producers and reporters, as well as active duty Marines responsible for extraordinary work. A diverse panel of experts from major regional and national media outlets, authors, noted photographers and Marines, will review the awards submissions.

About the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation:
Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Marine Corps history, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation was established in 1979 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Foundation supports the historical programs of the Marine Corps in ways not possible through government funds. The Foundation provides grants and scholarships for research and the renovation, restoration, and commissioning of historical Marine Corps artifacts and landmarks. Securing the necessary funding for the complete construction of the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center, located in Triangle, Virginia, is the Foundation’s current primary mission while continuing to provide program support for the Corps’ historical, museum, and educational activities.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps remains temporarily closed. The grounds of the Museum, to include Semper Fidelis Memorial Park and the playground are open to the public. The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation office will continue to support and serve donors during this closure. Our team is still booking and hosting private events. Please follow the Museum's social media channels (@usmcmuseum) and check back for updates.
