The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is proud to support the 8th Annual Marine Corps Student Art Competition, an inspiring national program that invites students in grades K–12 to explore the 2026 theme, “Heroes,” through original artwork.
Submissions are open through April 15, 2026, and winning entries will be exhibited at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia—offering students the unique opportunity to have their artwork displayed in a museum dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of Marines.
The Student Art Competition reflects the Foundation’s mission to preserve and promulgate Marine Corps history. By encouraging young artists to engage creatively with stories of courage, sacrifice, service, and resilience, the program helps connect new generations to the values and legacy of the Marine Corps.
Through artistic expression, students are invited not only to learn about history—but to interpret it, personalize it, and share it in their own voices.
The 2026 theme challenges students to consider what it truly means to be a hero. The concept can be interpreted broadly and creatively.
Artwork may depict:
There is no single way to portray a hero. Students may choose to create colorful, action-filled scenes or quiet, reflective pieces that capture personal meaning. The competition encourages imagination, originality, and thoughtful storytelling through art.
The competition is open to students worldwide in grades K–12, including public, private, Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), homeschool, and special needs students.

Entries will be judged in six grade-based categories:
To ensure a manageable and equitable judging process, only the first 50 submissions received in each category will be accepted. Once a category reaches its 50-entry limit, additional submissions will not be considered. Early submission is strongly encouraged.
Winners will receive certificates and cash prizes presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, and selected artwork will be displayed at the Museum.
As a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promulgating Marine Corps history, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation provides critical support for educational initiatives and programming at the National Museum of the Marine Corps that are not possible through government funding alone.
The Student Art Competition is one such initiative. By funding prizes and supporting the exhibition of student artwork, the Foundation helps extend the Museum’s educational reach beyond its galleries—encouraging students nationwide to engage with Marine Corps history in a meaningful and creative way.
Through programs like this competition, the Foundation strengthens the Museum’s ability to inspire learning, foster historical understanding and connect future generations to the enduring values of honor, courage, and commitment.
