BGen. McKay was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve through the NROTC program at the University of Kansas. He was augmented into the regular establishment in 1963. After being promoted to captain, he served as battalion communications officer and Commanding Officer, Company A, 1st Bn., 5th Marines in Vietnam. During his 29-year career, BGen. McKay served as an artillery officer and held various command and staff positions, including G-2, G-3 and Assistant Division Commander, 1st Marine Division, and the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Command, Control, Computers, and Interoperability at Headquarters Marine Corps. Following his retirement, BGen. McKay began a private-sector management career and until 2001, served as a senior executive at a defense technology association. In November 2001, BGen. McKay joined the staff as the Chief Operating Officer for the Heritage Center. BGen. McKay is married to the former Mary LaVonne Ritter. They have a daughter, Stephanie, and a son, Chris.

Commander Armstrong graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1979. During his career he served on three cutters, commanding the CGC SITKINAK, a patrol boat homeported in Key West FL. His staff assignments included serving as the Comptroller for the CG 17th District in Juneau Alaska. He also served as the Headquarters Funds Manager for the $60M Coast Guard Relocation Account. Since his retirement in 1999 he has worked with various companies providing acquisition and program support to the Coast Guard.

Mrs. Hodges left New Jersey in 1965 to attend Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. In 1967, she married Jim, who was commissioned a Marine 2nd Lieutenant in 1968. After 17 moves in a 24-year career, they’ve settled in Montclair, Virginia. Mrs. Hodges held a variety of volunteer positions with several service organizations before accepting paid employment with the Family Service Center at Quantico. She joined the Foundation in 1990 when the offices moved from the Washington Navy Yard to Quantico and became Executive Director in 1996.

Mrs. Vanderveld began her career in the non-profit world at the Boat Owners Association, working within membership marketing. In 2001, she joined the National Rifle Association as a Major Gifts and Individual Giving Program Coordinator where she handled all donor special events and recognition programs as well as production of collateral marketing materials. She joined the Foundation in 2005 and assisted with the planning and execution of the National Museum of the Marine Corps’ dedication events.

Col. Camp retired from the Marine Corps in 1988 after completing 26 years of service. During his career he served in a variety of command and staff assignments, including the Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., Instructor, The Basic School, CO, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego, CO, Recruiting Station, Milwaukee, WI, CO, 12th Marine Corps District, San Francisco, CA, and Aide de Camp, CG Marine Corps Education Center. He served one tour in Vietnam as CO, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment. Following his career in the Marine Corps he became a school district business manager in Cincinnati, OH and, after retirement, Deputy Director History Division, Marine Corps University. He is the author of over 50 military related articles that have been published in Leatherneck Magazine, Marine Corps Gazette, World War II Magazine, Vietnam Magazine, Naval Institute Proceedings and Marine Corps League. In addition he authored four books: Lima 6, A Marine Company Commander in Vietnam, Leatherneck Legends, Conversations with the Marine Corps' Old Breed, Battleship Arizona's Marines at War, Iwo Jima Recon and The U.S. Navy At War, February 17, 1945. A fifth book, Machine Guns in the Wheat, Marines at Belleau Woods, will be published summer of 2008.
